Display stands are an investment. A roll-up banner, pop-up wall or fabric stand can serve dozens of events β or look tired after three. The difference is mostly banner stand care. These routines take a few minutes and dramatically extend the life of your displays, especially in the UAE's heat and dust.
Roll-up (retractable) banners
Setting up
- Open the feet fully before pulling the graphic up.
- Pull the graphic up slowly and evenly β never at an angle.
- Make sure the top rail is securely hooked before letting go.
Packing down
- Wipe dust off the graphic with a dry microfibre cloth before retracting.
- Guide the graphic down by hand. Letting it snap back can scratch the print, tear the edges and damage the spring.
- Make sure the graphic is completely dry before rolling it up.
- Fold the pole and place everything in the padded bag.
Pop-up displays
- Expand and collapse the frame gradually, supporting it from both sides.
- Roll graphic panels with the print facing outward, or as the manufacturer recommends, to avoid creasing.
- Check magnets and connectors before each event.
- Store panels in their tube or case, never folded.
Fabric and tension displays
- Fabric graphics can usually be folded, but avoid sharp creases through faces and logos.
- Light creases often relax once the fabric is stretched on the frame.
- Spot clean marks gently with a damp cloth and mild soap; test a small area first.
- Ensure fabric is completely dry before storage to avoid mildew.

Flags and teardrop banners
- Take flags down in strong winds β it prevents both tearing and base damage.
- Shake off sand and dust before rolling.
- Dry flags fully before bagging.
- Check water or sand bases for leaks after each use.

Cleaning printed graphics
| Surface | How to clean | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Roll-up film/vinyl | Dry microfibre or slightly damp cloth | Solvents, abrasive pads |
| Fabric graphics | Gentle spot clean, mild soap | Bleach, hot water on print |
| Foam and PVC boards | Dry cloth or lightly damp cloth | Soaking edges, harsh chemicals |
| Acrylic | Microfibre and dedicated acrylic cleaner | Paper towels, glass cleaners with ammonia |
Transporting displays
- Keep bags upright or flat, never under heavy boxes.
- Pad corners of rigid boards and cut-outs.
- Label bags clearly with contents and size so the right banner arrives at the right event.
- Do not leave displays in a car in the sun β cabin temperatures in summer can warp boards and weaken adhesives.
Storage
- Store indoors in a cool, dry, shaded place.
- Keep roll-ups upright or lying flat on a shelf.
- Store rigid panels flat or upright with support to prevent warping.
- Keep an inventory: which banners you own, sizes and last-used date.
Post-event checklist
- Clean and dry everything.
- Check feet, poles, connectors and bases.
- Note any damaged graphics for replacement.
- Pack and label.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my roll-up graphic curl at the edges?
Heat, humidity and fast retraction can cause curling. Store in a cool place and retract slowly.
Can a damaged graphic be replaced?
Often yes β read our retractable banner stand guide.
How often should I replace my displays?
When branding changes or the graphic shows visible wear. Well-cared-for stands can last for many events.
