A roll-up banner is still the hardest-working piece of print a UAE business can own. It sets up in under a minute, fits in a car boot, and turns a blank corner of a mall, clinic reception or exhibition hall into branded space. But not every roll-up is the same, and the difference between a banner that looks sharp for years and one that curls, fades or wobbles usually comes down to decisions made before you ever place the order.
This guide walks through everything we discuss with customers ordering roll-up banner printing in Dubai β sizes, stand types, single vs double-sided options, artwork preparation and practical placement tips β so you can order once and order right.
What exactly is a roll-up banner?
A roll-up banner (also called a pull-up banner, retractable banner stand or pop-up banner) is a printed graphic that rolls into a spring-loaded aluminium base. To set it up, you pull the graphic up out of the base and hook it onto a telescopic pole at the back. To pack it down, you unhook it and let it retract back into the base, which then slides into a padded carry bag.
Because the graphic is protected inside the cassette when not in use, a good roll-up banner can be reused across dozens of events, which is why it remains the default choice for exhibitions, roadshows, product launches, clinic receptions, school open days and real-estate site offices across the UAE.
Roll-up banner sizes available
The width you choose affects visibility, transport and how much message you can fit. These are the formats in our roll-up banner collection:
| Size (W x H) | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 60 x 160 cm | Counters, reception desks, small booths, tight corridors | Compact and light; ideal when floor space is limited |
| 85 x 200 cm | Exhibitions, retail entrances, events β the all-rounder | The most popular size in the UAE; also available double-sided |
| 120 x 200 cm | Stage sides, larger booths, brand walls | Noticeably more presence without needing a full backdrop |
| 150 x 200 cm | Photo points, sponsor walls, larger venues | Works as a mini backdrop behind a speaker or product |
| 200 x 200 cm | Media walls, step-and-repeat, press areas | The widest format; effectively a portable backdrop |
If you are unsure, start with the 85 x 200 cm roll-up banner with portable stand. It reads clearly from across a room, fits most venue rules and travels easily. For a deeper look at dimensions, safe zones and bleed, see our standard roll-up banner size guide.
Single-sided vs double-sided roll-ups
A single-sided banner is designed to stand against a wall or at the back of a booth. A double-sided roll-up banner carries a printed graphic on both faces, so it works in open spaces where people approach from two directions β mall atriums, hotel lobbies, walkways between exhibition halls or the middle of a showroom floor.
Choose double-sided when:
- The banner will stand in the middle of a floor rather than against a wall.
- You want two different messages β for example, English on one side and Arabic on the other.
- You need to maximise visibility in a busy mall activation.
What makes a roll-up banner last
Two banners with identical artwork can perform very differently. These are the factors that decide lifespan:
1. The base and cassette
The aluminium base holds the spring mechanism. A sturdier base with stable feet keeps the banner upright on smooth mall floors and stops it tipping when someone brushes past. Premium stands, like our premium roll-up range, are built for repeated set-up and pack-down.
2. The print material
Roll-up graphics are usually printed on an anti-curl banner film designed to roll repeatedly without cracking. Cheap vinyl can curl at the edges, which makes the banner look tired after a few uses.
3. How it is stored
Always roll the graphic back into the cassette slowly while guiding it with your hand β letting it snap back can scratch the print and damage the spring. Store the banner in its bag, away from direct sun and car-boot heat during UAE summers.
Designing a roll-up banner that actually works
A roll-up banner is read in about three seconds by someone walking past. Design for that moment:
- Put your logo and key message in the top third. The bottom 20β30 cm is often hidden by tables, people or products.
- One headline, not a paragraph. Aim for five to eight words that say what you do or what you are offering.
- Use large type. Headlines should be readable from three to five metres away.
- Include one clear call to action β a website, a QR code or a social handle. Place QR codes at chest height, not at the very bottom.
- Keep high contrast. Dark text on light backgrounds (or the reverse) prints and reads far better than mid-tones on mid-tones.
- Respect the safe area. Keep important content away from the edges and the very bottom, where the graphic enters the base.
Artwork checklist before you order
- Set the document to the exact banner size at 1:1 scale (or 1:10 scale at ten times the resolution).
- Add bleed on all sides, with extra at the bottom for the portion that sits inside the cassette.
- Use CMYK colour mode and embed or outline all fonts.
- Use images at a minimum of 100β150 DPI at full size β roll-ups are viewed from a distance, so you do not need 300 DPI at full scale.
- Export as a high-resolution PDF.

Where roll-up banners work best in the UAE
- Exhibitions and conferences at venues like Dubai World Trade Centre and ADNEC β as booth anchors or entrance markers.
- Mall activations and kiosks β a double-sided banner draws traffic from both directions.
- Clinics, salons and showrooms β promoting a service, a seasonal offer or a new product at reception.
- Schools and universities β open days, admissions events and sports days.
- Seasonal campaigns β our National Day roll-up banners are a quick way to dress an office or storefront for Eid Al Etihad.
Roll-up banner vs other displays
If you need more visual impact than a single banner, consider pairing two or three roll-ups side by side to form a wall, or step up to a pop-up display or tension fabric stand. For outdoor visibility, a teardrop flag handles wind far better than a roll-up, which is designed mainly for indoor use.
Frequently asked questions
Can a roll-up banner be used outdoors?
Roll-ups are primarily indoor displays. They can be used outdoors on calm days in sheltered spots, but wind can tip them over. For outdoor use, flags or heavier-based displays are the better choice.
Can I replace just the graphic later?
Depending on the stand, the printed graphic can often be replaced while keeping the base, which is a cost-effective way to refresh a campaign. Ask our team when ordering.
How many banners do I need for an exhibition booth?
For a standard 3 x 3 m shell scheme booth, two 85 x 200 cm banners at the back plus one at the front corner is a common, effective setup.
Which size is best for a reception desk?
The 60 x 160 cm format fits beside most reception counters without blocking walkways.
