Flyer Sizes Explained: A3 vs A4 vs A5 vs A6 (Which One Do You Need?)

Flyer size feels like a minor decision until you're standing at a mall activation with 500 pieces that are too bulky to hand out quickly, or mailing a postcard-sized flyer that gets lost in a stack of A4 mail. Size determines cost, distribution method, and how much information you can realistically include — get it wrong and even great design won't save the campaign.

The standard sizes, and what they're actually for

A3 flyers (297 × 420mm)

Large enough to work as a mini-poster. A3 is the right call when the flyer needs to be seen from a few meters away — pinned to a noticeboard, taped in a shop window, or displayed on an easel at an event. Too large for hand-to-hand distribution or mailing. See A3 Flyers.

A4 flyers (210 × 297mm)

The most common flyer size in the UAE, and for good reason — it holds enough content for a real offer or menu while still being practical to hand out, mail, or stack on a countertop. If you're unsure which size to choose, A4 is almost always the safe default. Browse A4 Flyers.

A5 flyers (148 × 210mm)

Half the size of A4, and the sweet spot for street handouts, mall promotions and pamphlet-style distribution. Small enough that people will actually take one and hold onto it, large enough to fit a real message. This is the workhorse size for restaurant promotions and retail sales. See A5 Flyers.

A6 flyers (105 × 148mm)

Postcard-sized. Best for a single, sharp message — a discount code, an event date, a QR code to a menu — rather than dense information. Cheap to print in bulk and easy to slip into a bag or bill folder. Explore A6 Flyers.

Single-sided vs double-sided

Single-sided printing keeps cost down and works well when the message is short and visual. Double-sided effectively doubles your content space for a small cost increase — useful for a menu on one side and a promotion on the other, or bilingual English/Arabic content split across both faces, which is common practice across the UAE market. See Double Side Flyers and Single Side Flyers.

Matching size to distribution method

Distribution method Best size
Street/mall handouts A5
Noticeboard/window display A3
Direct mail or door drop A4 or A5
Bill/receipt insert A6
Restaurant table display A5 or A6

A note on paper weight

Size gets the attention, but flimsy paper undermines even the right size choice — a thin A5 flyer feels disposable before anyone reads it. For anything meant to be kept rather than glanced at once, ask about heavier stock or a light lamination.

Frequently asked questions

What's the most cost-effective flyer size for a tight budget?

A6 by unit cost, A5 by cost-to-impact ratio — it holds more message per piece without a large jump in printing cost.

Should I go double-sided or print two separate flyers?

Double-sided is almost always more cost-efficient than two single-sided runs, and keeps your offer and details in one physical piece the recipient won't separate.

Can I mix sizes within one campaign?

Yes — many businesses use A3 for in-store display and A5 for handouts of the same campaign, which is a common and effective combination.
