Design tips
- Simple outlines cut best. Very thin points and tiny gaps may be simplified or rounded.
- Add a small offset border (a few millimetres) around complex shapes so the cut line doesn't slice into the artwork.
- Make it recognisable in silhouette. A good cut-out is identifiable even from its shape alone.
- High resolution matters — especially for life-size pieces.
- Think about the back. If people will see it, consider printing both sides or a plain colour.
Care and reuse
Keep cut-outs away from direct sun and humidity, store them flat or upright with support, and protect edges in transport. Foam board is best indoors.
