Walk into almost any wedding, product launch or exhibition stand in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah and you'll find the same thing anchoring the room: a backdrop. It's the wall guests photograph in front of, the panel that carries a brand's logo through a hundred phone cameras, and the first thing a client notices when they walk into a conference hall. If you're planning one for the first time, here's what actually matters before you order.
What a custom event backdrop is made of
Most UAE-made backdrops are built on rigid foam board with a printed vinyl finish, rather than stretched fabric. Foam board holds its shape, doesn't wrinkle under event lighting, and comes with a self-standing structure built in β so there's no need to hire a separate frame or truss system. Printing is done on large-format digital printers at high resolution (up to 1440 DPI), using CMYK inks for accurate colour and a matte finish that cuts down on camera-flash glare.
How big should it be?
For a standard photo-wall style backdrop, 2Γ2 m, 2Γ3 m and 3Γ3 m are the most common sizes, and custom dimensions can be produced on request. The right size depends on the venue: a mall activation or small majlis setup works well at 2Γ2 m, while a hotel ballroom stage or a trade show booth usually needs the full 3Γ3 m to hold its own against the room.
Free design, not just free printing
A detail worth knowing before you start: reputable UAE printers, including Yalla Printing's custom backdrop service, include the design work in the order. You're not expected to arrive with print-ready artwork β you share your logo, theme or reference images, a designer builds the layout, and you approve a digital proof before anything goes to print.
What to ask for, depending on your event
- Corporate launches and press conferences β logo repetition (step-and-repeat), sponsor panels, QR codes linking to a landing page.
- Weddings and engagements β soft colour palettes, couple names, and often a matching arch or dual-panel welcome sign alongside the main backdrop.
- Exhibitions and mall activations β bold, high-contrast graphics that read from a distance, since foot traffic won't stop to study small text.
Indoor vs outdoor use
Foam board backdrops are built primarily for indoor use. Short, shaded outdoor display is generally fine, but direct sun and rain over several hours will warp the board or fade the print β if your event is outdoors for an extended period, ask about lamination or a fabric alternative instead.
Reusing your backdrop
Because the board is rigid rather than folded, a well-handled backdrop can be reused across several events β useful if you're running a recurring pop-up, a seasonal campaign, or an annual company event where the branding doesn't change.
If you're planning a wedding welcome display or a Ramadan and Eid arch specifically, the considerations are a little different β we cover both in separate guides linked below.
